IHO Trips: Travel + Learn!

The Institute of Human Origins develops, plans, and organizes trips, tours, and cruises that are led by one of our scientists to amazing and anthropologically significant places around the globe.

South Africa, Madagascar, and Galapagos Islands are just a few of the adventures that travelers have visited with scientists who make these more than just site-seeing trips.

Trips in the Planning Stage

GALAPAGOS: In the planning stages. IHO Director and Professor Bill Kimbel led a trip to the Galapagos May 2009 and we have heard from many of our travelers that they would love to go. We are beginning to gage interest in a trip in 2013—please let us know if you are interested!

The SOUTH AFRICA trip is a popular destination and has usually been scheduled during October, which occurs during active field research in Mossel Bay. An amazing travel adventure, the trip explores South Africa's most beautiful coastal scenery, famed wildlife reserves, and groundbreaking research field camps.

ETHIOPIA: The trip for January 2012 is full! Many travelers asked Professor Johanson to return to Ethiopia and the field site for ongoing archeaological discoveries close to the Afar region where "Lucy" was first discovered. This is a challenging but worthwhile expedition to see how archeaologists in the field work and find scientifically important fossils and bones. Please let us know if you might be interested in traveling to Ethiopia during the annual Timkat celebrations for Epiphany.

If any one of these trips are of interest to you, please contact Julie Russ at jruss.iho@asu.edu or 480.727.6571.
