Lucy Comes to Times Square
Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis) is set to open at Discovery Times Square Exposition, a new facility located in New York City. The fossil, and over 100 cultural artifacts that compose Lucy's Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia, will be on display June 24, 2009–October 25, 2009.

Origins Symposium
The institute's faculty will help Arizona State University launch its Origins Initiative, along with director Lawrence Krauss and other world-renowned scientists and researchers, April 3-6, 2009.

Lucy's Legacy
Don Johanson will lecture at Porterville College March 20, 2009.

On the Origin of Our Species: Darwin and Human Evolution
As part of ASU's Darwinfest, Bernard Wood, university professor of human origins at George Washington University and adjunct senior scientist at the National Museum of Natural History, will give a public lecture on Darwin and human evolution. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion including noted physical anthropologists Don Johanson and Bill Kimbel. Mark Spencer, a physical anthropologist in ASU's School of Human Evolution and Social Change and the Institute of Human Origins, will serve as panel moderator. The lecture and discussion is 3-5:30 p.m., Mon., February 9, 2009, in the Memorial Union, Pima Room.

Darwin Today: Evolution and Scientific Thought
This 1-day symposium at the University of Southern California includes a panel featuring Don Johanson, Eugenie Scott, Steve Finkel, David Bottjer and Craig Stanford. 

East African Association for Paleoanthropology
The newly formed East African Association for Paleoanthropology is looking for people interested in becoming members. “One of the main goals of the EAAP is to bring scholars working within this region closer by holding conferences to exchange ideas and report on paleoanthropological research findings, with an emphasis on making East African and foreign scholars working in East Africa aware of each other’s research.”
